This is an enterprise by Indigo Star Children for Indigos, Crystals, Star Children and others aware of their ability to evolve consciously. We've based our programs and services on what we would have liked our world to be like when we were children. What if all the adults who interacted with us were aware of our feelings of divine purpose and sensitivity to artificiality, and acted upon that awareness - in school, at home, and in all our other activities and within our communities? We believe we would be much more effective in our endeavors today, as adults.
Why Orpheus?
Orpheus, legendary prophet, divine poet, musician and culture- bringer of the ancient world, is the most famous musician and poet in Greek mythology. He was the mortal son of Apollo, the god of poetry and music, and the muse Calliope. When he played his lyre and sang, rivers ceased to flow, beasts forgot their wildness, mountains moved from place to place to listen; all nature was charmed and animated when Orpheus played. He was the first to bring in a new way the message similar to that of Christ into the world, yet 1500 years earlier: that we are "two-fold" creatures - children of heaven and earth; visible beings embodied in space and time, and invisible beings of soul and spirit. We live and work and have existence in both realms. And these realms interpenetrate and reflect one another; there is nothing "there" that is not "here." Therefore our lives and our work are continuous, and the relationships and connections we form here continue there, as does our activity and participation in the divine-spiritual-human cosmic process we call the universe.
Orpheus brought the good news of the "Orphic way of life" - a way of conscious effort, sacrifice and suffering - and made it open to all. He "universalized" the mysteries, freeing them from the sacred geography of the Mystery Centers. At the same time he broke down the elitism of the Temple initiations of the previous epoch. In doing so, he created a free community of seekers, bound not by ties of blood or place, but by karma and by the shared pursuit of a common goal by common means: non-violence, kinship with all life, continual recollection, purity, and belief in both life after death and reincarnation.*
It was said in those times that the greatest thing that could happen to a mortal was that when he died - if he had made an incredible contribution to humanity - they would take whatever it was that symbolized his life on earth and throw it up into the heavens as a constellation, and that became his or her immortality. When Orpheus died, his father Apollo came down and took his lyre and threw it up into the heavens. That's the constellation Lyra you see today.
While we make an effort to refrain from assigning children
particular labels like Indigo, Crystal, Star Children, etc., at the
Orpheus Center, we support and encourage ALL children to share
and develop their special abilities and contributions to humanity.
We offer support to families and lots of resources, including classes,
gatherings, seminars, and more.
